Your Business is in Secure Hands – Make Way for Productivity with Secure Networks!

Small and medium-sized businesses often lack the IT resources of large companies. As a result network security may not be sufficient to protect your business from today's Internet threats like viruses, spyware, zero-hour attacks, hacker attacks, Data interception and theft and many such issues that make your productivity less and disrupt smooth functioning.
Now the question comes how to secure your networks efficiently? Not to worry, we will answer to that wisely. Now the foremost thing to understand is that no single solution protects you from a variety of threats. You need multiple layers of security. So if one fails, others still protect. Network security is accomplished through hardware and software and they must be constantly updated and managed. A network security system usually consists of many components. Ideally, all components work together, which minimizes maintenance and improves security.

Network security components often include:
  • Anti-virus and anti-spyware
  • Firewall, to block unauthorized access to your network
  • Intrusion prevention systems (IPS), to identify fast-spreading threats, such as zero-day or zero-hour attacks
Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), to provide secure remote access:-
  • Once secured, productivity multiplies:
  • No disruption while at work.
  • Efficiency of employees goes up.
  • It helps your company meet mandatory regulatory compliance.
  • Protects your customers' data.
  • Reduces the risk of legal action from data theft.
  • Helps to maintain smooth delivery to clients.

Added benefits of a secured network:-
Share & Care:- As a result of a competent network, computer files can be stored centrally, therefore multiple people can work on one single copy. This helps to delegate one’s responsibility (faxing, mailing, printing, etc.) to others for better functioning. Also, if you have a broadband Internet connection, setting up a LAN will allow the entire office to access the Internet concurrently.
Back it up:- You can store computer files at one place will also make data backup easier, more reliable and cost efficient.
Data Sharing:- Certain applications such as accounting, scheduling, contact management, as well as billing software, allows user to setup a central data repository for multiple computer access. Once the repository is setup, multiple computers can view and modify the same set of data. Data sharing increase work efficiency, allow faster decision making, and let you have a better view of the status of the business.

The roots of Better Networking recline to its Switches

Whether you own a small or medium sized business, its growth depends lots on a better network. A smooth networkimproves employee productivity and can save your business money by allowing employees to share computer hardware and an internet connection. Internet connection introduces them to the web world which opens the windows for convenient and cost effective ways of serving clients/customers better.

Know the basics of Basic Networking - The fundamentals of basic networking consist of a switch, a router, network management software and wireless access. Now for a small or a mid-sized business, buy networking products that’s designed specifically for your size of business. If you buy consumer-grade home networking products, then you will have to suffer as they lack the features and enhancements to expand your network as your business grows.

1. A switch: If network is the human body then switch is its brain. It is used to connect computers and laptops, printers, servers, and storage devices to a Local Area Network (LAN). It basically controls the network. With a switch you can create a network of shared resources that all of your employees can access. To have a better control over security and bandwidth allocation within your network, it is advisable to get equipped to manageable switches.

2. A router: Many people confuse the functioning of a router with that of a switch. The basic difference is that a router is used to connect your office network to the Internet. With a router you can share a single Internet connection among all of the users on your network, connecting your small business to the world. Since the router is exposed in the web world, it may attract hackers and viruses. So it is advisable to choose a router that has built in security features.

3. Network management software: When it comes to managing all of the devices on your network, Network management software comes into the picture. With this software, you can quickly add new devices, manage file sharing among computers and a printer, and control which users have access to which devices on the network. Also, you can use it to maintain and repair your network. It keeps you updated, send you alerts if your Internet connection goes down or if there’s a security breach.

4.Wireless Access: Wireless access allows employees to move throughout the building and take their data with them.
So, these are the basics of networking that you need to be well versed with, when you want to make a purchase or build a networking set-up for your business.

IT’S TIME YOU SWITCH TO CONGESTION FREE NETWORKS WITH LAN SWITCHES BY CISCO

What do you do when the traffic load grows on your network? You switch. What do you do to manage the video and other bandwidth-intensive applications? You switch. What do you do to take care all the above problems in the most organized way. You switch to LAN SWITCHES.

A business whether small or midsized, requires better speed and congestion free networks for smooth functioning and that’s exactly what LAN switching provides. Here’s how:
1. Reduces congestion and information transmission delay—This translates to more efficient business application access. The network segmentation is used to minimize the number of users contending for LAN bandwidth on each segment (switch port).
2Helps to segment your network logically
VLANs help to send traffic only where it needs to go, at the speed it needs to go unlike the traditional way of placing all traffic in a single broadcast domain.
You can use a variety of Layer 2 and Layer 3 VLAN types to segment traffic. Many Cisco switches for small and midsized businesses offer all of the following types of VLANs:
· Protocol, such as a VLAN dedicated to IP voice or video traffic
· Devices, such as a VLAN for wireless clients, a server or printer, or all the equipment on a building floor
· Port, such as a VLAN for a department or other group of users
· Guest, MAC address, and unauthenticated traffic
· Dynamic VLAN assignment that uses the end device's source MAC address to assign switch ports to VLANs
· Multicast VLAN Registration (MVR), which organizes multicast traffic into a dedicated VLAN while maintaining the users' other VLANs. Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) Snooping limits the traffic to the devices that need it

3. Provides the Needed Capacity
To reduce latency, congestion, and collisions, apply switch capacity capabilities such as:
· A fast engine: Cisco switches use Non-blocking wire-speed silicon chips at zero cost.
· Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP): This standard feature increases available bandwidth by trunking ports.
· Gigabit bandwidth on LAN ports and uplinks
4. Prioritize Applications and Apply Traffic Shaping
The following switch features help to set performance parameters based on the traffic's importance and sensitivity to jitter and latency.
· Prioritize applications by 802.1p/q tag(a Layer 2 switching capability)
· Prioritize applications by IP header(differentiated services code point (DSCP)/type of service (ToS), a Layer 3 switching capability).
· Shape traffic to delay packets, using criteria such as bandwidth throttling or rate limiting.
